Design Talks October 2014 ran from October 16-19, 2014 where experts in the design, marketing and business industry come together to share their insights, works and inspiration. Hosted by Patricia Hizon, sportscaster and TV host, Design Talks was held on the second floor of the SMX Convention Center.

The third day, with the theme ‘Building Asia,’ featured local and international architects and designers as they shared their perspectives on architectural design and planning trends in Asia.

Johnny Chiu

Johnny Chiu

Johnny Chiu, founding partner of JC Architecture and one of Taiwan’s top architects, was the first speaker of the day. He shared his notable projects with the audience including the National Taipei University Library. Johnny’s design philosophy is not to focus on oneself but learn to collaborate, discuss ideas, argue and create a brand. Simple objeccts also hold a lot of insightful inspirations.

Liza Morales-Crespo

Liza Morales-Crespo

Liza Morales-Crespo, principal of Liza Crespo Ecotecture, was next as she discusses sustainable design for the 21st century that uses natural materials to reduce energy use, CO2 emissions, water use and solid wastes. She also presented her works that range from residences, office buildings to master plan developments.

Emmanuel Miñana

Emmanuel Miñana

The third speaker of the day was Emmanuel Miñana, the first Filipino architect to be shortlisted in the prestigious World Architecture Festival held recently in Singapore. He discussed the combination of space, materials and technology that equate to lifestyle.  According to him, design is a creative process.

Design Week Philippines is the Philippines’ celebration of design and creativity held every third week of March and October.
