The 60th Manila FAME, held from October 16-19, at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City brought together the four rising designers of Red Box Home under the continued mentorship of Manila FAME Creative Director Budji Layug in collaboration with exporters/manufacturers who specialize in furniture and home accents.
Leeroy New, one of the Red Box home designers, is a sculptor artist who uses organic shapes to create unique and not-so-usual pieces. In collaboration with Rugare and Catalina Embroideries Inc., Leeroy featured his installation made out of corrugated board.
Lilianna Manahan drew inspiration for her pieces from the things she saw everyday. Her design style is very playful as seen in her showcase which she created in collaboration with CSM Philippines Inc., Maze Manufacturing Co. Inc., and Triboa Bay Living by Vivere Lifestyles Co. Inc.
Featured at Red Box Home was designer Joseph Rastrullo’s Linea collection. With The Sun (made of wicker and a honey brown finish), The Bird’s Nest and The Ant Hill, Joseph created a universe-themed showcase combining modernity and creativity with the help of Global Plus Interdecor and Prado Filipino Artisans.
At Rachelle Dagñalan’s installation, she showcased Stella. Inspired by stars and the Christmas lantern (parol), it was made of fine abaca pulp paper, carefully made and assembled by Rachelle and the artisans’ hands. The hundred-piece geometric lanterns were placed side-by-side to create a constellation of stars.
Manila FAME is the second longest-running trade show in Asia Pacific and the only trade event in the Philippines approved by the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. The 60th edition ran till October 19, 2014.
The 61st edition will be from March 13-16, 2015 at the second floor of the SMX Convention Center. The Philippines International Furniture Show, a co-located event, will be on the first floor.
