59th Manila FAME sets special holiday setting

The 59th edition of Manila FAME will be a colorful showcase of the country’s best and most innovative products, set to take center stage at the SMX Convention Area, Mall of Asia Complex in Pasay on March 14-17.

Inspired by the Filipino’s identity of being festive people, there will be a special holiday setting at the Manila FAME under the Red Box Holiday and Gifts, which aims to put on display export-quality holiday décor and local ornaments in a whimsical holiday setting, under the creative direction of Manila FAME Creative Director Budji Layug.

Organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the export promotions arm of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Manila FAME is a bi-annual showcase of certified, export-quality products such as furniture and furnishings, holiday gifts and decor, garments, and fashion accessories crafted in the Philippines for the global market. Red Box is CITEM’s design development program which introduces a fresh batch of Filipino designers who are matched with local manufacturers to create innovative products that reflect their unique design sensibility.

“The Philippines is considered as one of the countries with the merriest and most number of festivals celebrated every year. At Manila FAME,our aim is to establish our local arts and crafts industry as a reliable source of gifts and decorative pieces, crafted with soul and from the heart,” said Rosvi Gaetos, CITEM Executive Director.

A new set of designers will provide product development assistance to local manufacturers to create export-quality holiday products. Young designers Mansy Abesamis and Kath Mitra have collaborated with Budji Layug for the Red Box Holiday and Gifts program to help local manufacturers in showcasing their finely crafted holiday products to local and foreign buyers in a special setting.

It also covers the following categories: Home, Fashion, and the One Town, One Product (OTOP), with each having its own scenography at Manila FAME, highlighting the potential of the Philippine export industry in the grassroots levels.

Manila FAME is the second longest-running trade show in the Asia Pacific and the only trade event in the Philippines approved by the Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry.
