NeoTextiles Philippines: The Story of Philippine Contemporary Textile

Manila FAME showcases tradition and age-old artisanship in textile making retold, revitalized, and rewoven for the modern world at the special setting of NeoTextiles Philippines.

NeoTextiles Philippines, a new feature this October, is a project of the Garments and Textile Industry Development Office (GTIDO). GTIDO’s Material Development Program aims to support and promote the Philippine textile, positioning it as a commercially-viable and globally-competitive product that gives value to its roots while innovating tradition and adapting today’s trends to create products that are versatile and modern.

Olivia d’Abovile, a French-Filipino artist based in Manila, lends her creative sensibilities in elevating these contemporary fabrics that are ethnic-inspired yet versatile, artisanal yet progressive, world-class yet distinctly Filipino. D’Aboville designed products developed from these neotextiles, partnering with seasoned manufacturers to create fashion and home pieces that highlight the versatility of these contemporary fabrics.

Companies involved NeoTextiles include Balay ni Atong, Klowil Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Tadeco Home, Rurungan sa Tubod Foundation Inc., and S.C. Vizcarra.
