Manila FAME featured a special setting that showcases earth-friendly and sustainable products at its GreenCrafts for Creative Environment exhibit. An initiative that will highlight the participating localities’ efforts to transform urban ecologies into self-sustaining and pro-environment society.
The GreenCrafts for Creative Environment project showcases local crafts from cities in Metro Manila that turns recycled materials into beautifully handcrafted products. Participating municipalities are: Caloocan, Las Pinas, Makati, Marikina, Manila, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Pasig, Quezon City, San Juan, Taguig, and Valenzuela.
Veteran designer PJ Aranador worked hand in hand with the exhibitors to develop these products. Aranador says, “This year, we updated some materials which are upcycled from mostly waste materials. These include rubber tires which are converted into footwear and bags. Also we updated the colors, in terms of the spring/summer 2013 color palette so these are the reflectors or luminous colors. There are also pieces that we kept; we updated them in terms of functions and sizes so that they suit the export market, not only for local retail but also for the international market.”
